Ronald “Ron” Gernhart

Ronald Gernhart, age 64, of Tomah, Wisconsin, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah.  Pastor Krysta Deede officiated.

The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences are available at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com.

Ron was born on June 9, 1952, to Lewis and Margaret (Baker) Gernhart in Iowa.

Ron was a practicing social worker for over 30 years — and 25 of those years were spent with the Tomah VA.  He was also a volunteer driver for Monroe County Senior Services, as well as volunteering with the VA.

Ron had a real passion for the outdoors — whether it was riding his bike, skiing, gardening, or fishing.  He was an avid reader, and he enjoyed doing puzzles.

More than anything, he loved his family — especially his grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Katelyn (Levi) Rasmussen, and their children: Madilyne, Annabelle, Levi, and Charlotte; a son, Steven Gernhart and his significant other, Diana Graham; siblings John (Sue) Gernhart and Dale (Sheila) Gernhart, both of Iowa, and Gary (Sarah) Gernhart of Nebraska; along with many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Chad Gernhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ron’s family.
