Mary C. Yanacheak, 64, of Anthon, Iowa died Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa.

The funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, October 26, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon with Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial was in Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Anthon. Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home in Anthon was in charge of arrangements. The family is receiving condolences online at www.armstrongfuneral.com.

Mary Cecelia Yanacheak was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Frank and Carolyn (Walling) Yanacheak on April 3, 1952. She graduated school at the Anthon-Oto High School in Anthon.

Mary first worked at several waitress and custodial jobs in Sioux City. She came home to Anthon in 1993, to take care of her mother. After her mother’s death, she remained in Anthon.

She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, where she served as Regent for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also a lector and Eucharistic Minister at church in years past. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary McNiff Unit #389 of Anthon, serving as a past president.

Mary truly enjoyed the company of people in general, reading, playing cards, and the special time spent with her friends.

Survivors include one brother, Charles “Chuck” Yanacheak of Chatham, Illinois; a stepsister, Margaret Finzen of Indianapolis, Indiana; nine nieces and nephews; two step nieces; and one step-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one brother, Tom, in 2015; aunts, uncles, cousins; and many friends.
