David Ohlendorf

David Ohlendorf, 70, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church, L.C.M.S. in Le Mars.  Reverend Tim Geitz officiated.  Burial followed at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars.  Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

David Henry Ohlendorf was born June 25, 1946 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Louis and Alice (Knight) Ohlendorf.  He attended country school near Kingsley, and later graduated from high school in Kingsley.

He was united in marriage to Lois May on May 18, 1974 in Le Mars.

Early on, David was a local transport driver for Le Mars Transfer.  Later, he owned and operated the Montgomery Ward store in Le Mars until selling the business and going to work for Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company.

David worked as a groundskeeper and in maintenance for Le Mars Mutual until his retirement.  He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

He enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens and being outdoors.  He also enjoyed reading and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Oakland Raiders.

He and Lois enjoyed playing cards with the “gang” and taking trips with their family and friends.  But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared in his life include his wife of over 42 years, Lois of Le Mars; a daughter: Lisa (Jeff) Terwilleger of Omaha, NE, and their children: Ashley (Phillip) and their son, Aven, Noah, and Sophia; a daughter: Teresa (David) Czarnecki of Logan, IA, and their children: Corey, George, Sam, and Abigale; a son: Eric (Jamie) Ohlendorf of Omaha, NE, and their children: Caraline, Lauren, and Lila; a daughter: Kate (Sam) Larson of Lincoln, NE, and their children: Henry and Mae; two brothers: Vernon (Betty) Ohlendorf of Tucson, AZ, and Ronnie Ohlendorf of Pierson, IA; a sister-in-law: Wilma May of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces and nephews, whom loved David very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alice Ohlendorf; his father and mother in law, Louis and Alice May; and a sister in law, Doris Ohlendorf.
