Marjorie “Marge” McLarty, 94, of Kingsley, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Kingsley Specialty Care.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31 at Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the Rev. Mike Stevens of Kingsley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Kingsley Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to rohdefh.com.
Marge McLarty was born on July 21, 1922, on a farm outside of Whiting, Iowa, the daughter of Chris T. and Flora (Walther) Westergaard. She grew up in the rural Whiting area, graduating from Whiting High School in 1940.
She married Russell McLarty on Sept. 23, 1942 in Dakota City. Shortly thereafter, Russ entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1945.
After his discharge, Marge and Russ farmed near Luton until moving to Correctionville, Iowa. In 1946, Marge and Russ moved to Kingsley, where they raised their family.
Marge worked at the Fashion Shoppe for many years. She always dressed quite well and was very classy in her appearance.
Russ passed on July 11, 2007. Marge continued living in their home until July 2016 when she went to Kingsley Specialty Care.
Marge and Russ were very involved in the Kingsley community and proud to call it home.
Marge was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the UMW. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The family is thankful for all the kind and caring neighbors on Main Street.
Survivors include four children: Patricia Saltzman of North Sioux City; Michael (Cherie) McLarty of Carlsbad, California; Kathleen (Michael) Blair of Waukee, Iowa; and Debra (Tim) Timmins of Hinton, Iowa; grandchildren Tom Saltzman Jr., Tammy (Michael) Steemken, Brenda Saltzman, Tanya Saltzman, Adam, Megan and Shelby McLarty, April Blair, Christopher (Katie) Blair, and Molly and John Timmins; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Dave (Pat) Barngrover; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Westergaard; and special friends Elaine Todd and Faye Ray.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russ; a son-in-law, Tom Saltzman Sr.; a grandson, Tim Saltzman; a brother, August Westergaard; and sisters Annie Pohlman & Kathryn Behrens.
