Mary Maxine (Molstad) Smith, 89, of Whiting, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Funeral services was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Whiting, Iowa with Pastor Sharon Cates, officiating. Burial was in the Whiting City Cemetery.

Mary Maxine was born on February 4, 1928 at Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Addie (Onstot) Molstad. She graduated from Moville High School in 1946. She then attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she obtained her teaching certificate.
Mary and Gilbert G. Smith were united in marriage on September 3, 1955 at Moville. Three children were born to this union: Randall, Catherine, and Lisa. Gilbert preceded her in death on August 11, 2011.
Mary taught briefly and continued as a substitute teacher at Whiting Community School for many years. She was also employed at Pleasant View Care Center as a cook for 20 years.
She was active in the community. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, U.C.C in Whiting for over 50 years, as well as the women’s fellowship. She also served as a 4-H leader. She was a member of the Ashton Township Ladies and Farm Bureau. She was also a board member of the Iowa Commission of Deaf Services.
Survivors include her three children: Randall (Donna) Smith of Pearland, TX; Catherine (Steven) Yinger of Omaha, NE; and Lisa (Philip) Babcock of Blair, NE; one grandson, Nicholas Smith of Pearland, TX; and a brother, Dr. Irving (Gina) Molstad of Sioux City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert G. Smith; a granddaughter, Holly Smith; and three brothers: Wayne, Howard, and Lloyd Molstad.
