Joyce Saxen


Joyce Elaine Saxen, 83, of Kingsley passed away June 20, 2017 at Kingsley Specialty Care surrounded by family.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday June 22, 2017 at Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley with family present from 6-8 pm. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday June 23, 2017, at Johnson-Earnest Funeral home in Kingsley with Pastor Tim Jones officiating and interment at Sunset View Cemetery in Washta, IA at 2:30 pm.

Joyce was born June 4, 1934 in Cherokee, IA to Elvin & Elizabeth (Boettger) Jenness Edwards. She graduated from Correctionville Community School and married Raymond Saxen on February 20, 1952. He preceded her in death on February 12, 2013.

Joyce worked as a telephone operator, correspondent and office for Pierson Press, a nurse’s aide for Colonial Manor in Correctionville, was a crew chief for a bean walking crew, sold Avon, and was a SRTS bus driver serving her community for many years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Church of Christ Correctionville where she was a Sunday School Teacher.

Those left to honor Joyce’s memory are her daughter Jennice (Don) Reimert and their children Jessica, husband Chris WInkley, and Adam and wife Devon and great-grandchild Asher of Newport News, VA, daughter Jean (Jerry) Young and their children Emily, great-grandchild Raheem & Hakeem Scates of Marshalltown, IA and Michael (Rachel) of Ames, IA; son Gary (Nora) and their children Catherine & Elizabeth Saxen of Le Mars; brother; Floyd (Maurita) Jenness of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Marcella Stred, Katherine Kellogg, brothers Harold Jenness, and Richard Edwards.
