James “Jim” Brownlee

James “Jim” Brownlee, 82 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at a local hospital.

Services will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

James was born December 16, 1935 in Anthon, Iowa, the son of Robert and Vertress (Davis) Brownlee. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1953. 

Jim worked at the Sioux City Iron Company, followed by a two-year tour in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. 

Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, Jim began working for Wilson Trailer Company, where he stayed for 19 years. He then worked for Hall Monument Company for 20 years.

James was an artist who would brighten the lives of those around him with both his many paintings and his cheerful demeanor. Those who knew him loved him.

James was married to Lana Bakken in 1963 and was blessed with three children: Timothy, Thomas, and Rebecca.

Jim later divorced and spent his remaining years with his friend and partner Kris Hermann, who preceded him in death.
