The River Valley Board of Education met in regular session on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the High School Board Room.  Members present were: Gaylen Goettsch, Nicole Deeds and Kristi Krager.  Absent were Deb Stevenson, Scott Knaack

The Public Hearing for the 2019-2020 budget was held.  There were no public responses.

Dana Hanson and elementary students were present to report on their Project Jack activity.  Students were given a grant and purchased and helped distribute personal need items to the Gospel Mission in Sioux City.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve consent agenda consisting of minutes of the March 18, 2019 meeting, Business Manager’s financial statements and audit and approval of claims.  Carried 3-0.

Correspondence was shared with the board from the Iowa State Speech Association commending Jacob Henderson on his All-State speech honors.

Mrs. Holtz and Mr. Bisenius gave their Principal’s reports.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve the 2019 audit.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve resignation of Steve Todd as Assistant Boys Basketball coach.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve 2019-2020  contract for Todd Goettsch as Head Baseball coach at $2,712.00. Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve 2019-2020 Assistant Volleyball Coach contract for Brittni Bormann at $1,353.00.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve the following 2019-2020 contracts:
Noah Phillips – Head Football coach – $2,876.00
Nolan Shanks – Assistant Football coach – $1,343.00
Adam Schirmer – Assistant Football coach – $1,343.00
Dean Norris – Junior High Football coach – $1650.95
Rob Hullinger – Junior High Football coach – $1,650.95
Morgan Carstens – Volunteer Football coach
Todd Johnson – Volunteer Football coach
Angie Reinking – Junior High Volleyball coach – $1,650.95
Kyle Trapp – Head Boys Basketball coach – $2,939.00
Brittni Borman – Head Girls Basketball coach – $2,674.00
Dan Holtz – Assistant Girls Basketball coach – $1,343.00
Braiden Tank – Junior High Wrestling coach – $1111.00
Tara Hill – Football Cheerleading coach – $825.17

Frankie Deeds – Drill Team coach – $1,683.67
Dean Norris – Junior High Basketball coach – $1,650.95.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to adopt the proposed budget for the 2019-2020 year.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve out of state trips to Shakopee, Minnesota for the Physics class, and the Senior trip to the Omaha Zoo.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve purchase of a MacCormack Ice Cream Machine for the concession stand at $16,590.00.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve Fall Great Start classes.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve the Sherman Scholarship Recipient.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve Erate purchase of a Dedicated Link to Washta from Xtreamair LLC for 15,000.00  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve sharing agreement with Galva-Holstein and Schaller-Crestland for 2019-2020 school year for wrestling.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve Certified Wage increases for the 2019-2020 year.  The board will raise each teacher’s salary by $1,000 and raise the base wages of BA, BA+15 and MA by $308.00 respectively.  The board will also raise coaches salaries by 1% from last year.  Article 2 – Employee Relations Committee was removed.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve Classified Master Contract for 2019-2020. The board proposed a two year plan to raise the educational aid wage to $9.00 by increasing all support staff except the bus drivers hourly rate by $.50.  The bus drivers will receive a .$25 cent raise.  This will be a one year agreement.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve for Chuck Knaack, Transportation Director – $37.886 with a raise of $1,200.00 Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve for Taunia Pry – Food Service Director – $23,322 with a raise of $1,200.00.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve Cindy Dittmer – Fiscal Agent – $23,900 with a raise of $100.00.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds to approve Kathy Fick – Superintendent Secretary – $15.80 with a raise of $.70 per hour.  Board Secretary wage will be discussed in July.  Carried 3-0.

Motion by Deeds, second by Krager to approve Melissa Holtz – Elementary Principal – $75,787 with a raise of $1,818.00. Carried 3-0.

Motion by Krager, second by Deeds, to approve Adam Bisenius – Jr./ Sr. High Principal – $75,787 with a raise of $1,818.00 and Athletic Director – $1500.00.  Carried 3-0.

Discussion items included the School Business Official position, Flexibility account and equipment breakdown and environmental control insurance coverage.

The next meeting will be May 14, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
