Janice Terry
Janice L. Terry, age 82, of Holstein, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at the AbiliT Senior Living of Holstein.
A funeral service was held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein. Burial was at the Holstein Cemetery.
Janice L. (Hargens) Terry was born December 26, 1936 in Cherokee to Louis Franklin and Bertha Arlyne (Wiese) Hargens. She was raised in Cushing and graduated from Cushing High School in 1955.
Janice was united in marriage to Duane Ruser and three children were born. She was then married to Clifford Alexander “Joe” Terry on July 16, 1960 in South Sioux City.
Joe adopted Janice’s first three children and the couple was blessed with two more. Joe passed away in 1983.
She later had a longtime companion named Carl Huth. He passed away in 2015.
During her working years Janice often had two or three jobs at a time. She babysat, worked at the telephone company in Cushing, Van-Top Industries and Food Locker, helped cater with Maxine Arne, and retired as a cook from the Holstein Good Samaritan Society.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Holstein.
Janice enjoyed bowling and was a member of a league in Holstein and Cherokee.
She played the accordion, and she loved to dance and listen to polka music. She enjoyed cooking, and she was famous for her potato salad.
Janice also enjoyed going to craft shows and celebrating the holidays with her family.
She is survived by her children, Steve Terry (fiancé Terri Libke), William “Bill” Terry, Shari (Robert) Shontz and Bryan (Tracy) Terry, all of Holstein; grandchildren Shawn Terry, Laura (Mick) Degner, Briana Terry (significant other Tate Nugent), Jacob (Kandie) Terry, Brandi Terry (significant other Tranez Nix), Jenna Terry, Shane (Kelsey) Bumsted, Dawn (Eric) VanHouten, Kelli (Dustin) Hahn, Kody (Kayla) Terry, Kyle (Leann) Terry, Jeff Libke and Nick Libke; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Betty Stoneking; a brother-in-law, Gaylen Galvin; and an aunt, LaVinna Wiese.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; a daughter, Janella; her longtime companion, Carl; sisters Carol Galvin, Judy Obbink; brothers-in-law Ken Stoneking and Bob Obbink; a daughter-in-law, Julie Terry; and a grandson, Darrin Hunt.
