Bernice Alioth

Bernice A. Alioth, 91, of Holstein, Iowa, formerly of Correctionville, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at The Good Samaritan Society of Holstein, Iowa.

Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020, with a Prayer Service at 11:00 a.m. at the Armstrong – Van Houten Funeral Home of Anthon, Iowa. Rev. Doresa Collogan officiated. Graveside Services followed in the Cushing Cemetery of Cushing, Iowa. Armstrong — Van Houten Funeral Home of Anthon is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Arlene Alioth, daughter of David and Alvina (Albertson) Greenwald, was born on January 31, 1928 in Battle Creek, Iowa. She was confirmed on April 27, 1941 at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. She graduated from Cushing High School with the Class of 1946.

On January 17, 1948, Bernice was united in marriage to Frederick Walter Alioth in South Sioux City, Nebraska. To this union were born four daughters: Bonnie, Debra, Shari, Sheila and two sons: Lester and Allen.

Bernice always had a large garden and she loved doing embroidery work, making many sets of dish towels and baby blankets. She enjoyed many summer days fishing with family and friends at various local farm ponds, especially when she caught a bigger fish than Fred.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Bonnie Hoaglund of Holstein, IA; Lester (Nancy) Alioth of Correctionville, IA; Debra (Marc) Groszkrueger of Correctionville, IA; Allen (Cindy) Alioth of Sgt. Bluff, IA; Shari (Robert) Margurite of Fountain, CO; and Sheila (Chris) Plendl of Sgt. Bluff, IA; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Ann Bruggeman of Oroville, CA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Alioth; her parents, David and Alvina Greenwald; brothers Walter (Florence) Greenwald and Marvin (Bonnie) Greenwald; and a son-in-law, Dennis Hoaglund.
