Marjorie Kovarna
Marjorie Kovarna, 88 of Kingsley, Iowa, passed away after a brief illness with cancer on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Kingsley Specialty Care Center.
Funeral Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present with social distancing will be from 5:00 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. A private burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
Marjorie “Margie” Jean Jackson was born on August 21, 1931 to Charles ‘Milton’ and Edith (Scoles) Jackson in Mapleton, Iowa. Margie grew up in Mapleton and attended Mapleton Schools.
On July 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to Howard G. Kovarna in Dakota City, Nebraska. They made their home on his family farm in rural Hinton. Margie helped Howard on the farm and with his trucking business.
She also was a school cook at Liberty Consolidated Schools. Howard and Margie later moved to rural Merrill, Iowa. Margie then worked for Timmy’s Catering in Le Mars, Iowa from 1988 until 2011 when she retired. Howard and Margie moved to Kingsley in 2009 and Howard passed away in 2011.
Margie loved being a grandma and great-grandma. When her children were young, their family often went camping and fishing. Both Howard and Margie were 4H club leaders; their family spent a lot of time at the county fairs. Margie will be remembered as a wonderful cook. She belonged to a 500 Card club in Hinton and played Bingo with a ladies group in Kingsley.
Margie is survived by her son, Doug (Rhonda) Kovarna of Hinton, Iowa; daughters Jean Larson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jackie (Dar) Phillips of Pierson, Iowa; grandchildren: Ty (Maria) Larson, Tanya Larson, Tal (Todd Plummer) Kovarna, Wendi (Rob) Meister, Jenna (Andrew) Medick, and Jaya Phillips; great grandchildren: Cy Larson, Brice Larson-Lekics, Lexi Larson-Kyte, Andrew Meister, MacKenzie Meister, Madison Meister, Bailey Meister, Lauren Kovarna, Carter Kovarna, Emmie Medick and Milo Medick; a brother, Robert (Heidi) Jackson; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; two granddaughters, Andrea and Kallie Phillips; and siblings: Gilbert (Dorothy) Jackson, Leona (Ray) Ullrich, Dorothy (Hayden) Wallace, Lyle Jackson, Velma (William ‘Bud’) Kounkel, Lloyde Jackson, and Russell Jackson.
