Bonnie Mathers

Bonnie L. Mathers, 89, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa on Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

A visitation took place on Monday, August 3, 2020 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.  The family was present to greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m.   Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Bonnie’s family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com

Bonnie Lou Mathers was born on November 5, 1930 in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence H. and Marvel G. (Moritz) Christophersen.  She graduated from Kingsley High School and married Bobby Gene Mathers on January 24, 1948 at the Kingsley United Methodist Church.

Bonnie and Bobby moved often with his work, and they lived in Sioux City and Marshalltown, Iowa as well as San Antonio, Texas and Belleville, Illinois.  Most of the years were spent in Kingsley.  While Bobby worked for Swift Packing, Bonnie stayed at home with the children.

Her interests included reading, flower and vegetable gardening, sewing, quilting, crafts and woodworking.  She was an avid sports fan and followed her children’s activities along with the Oakland Raiders.  While living in Texas, Bonnie fell in love with cactus and raised numerous plants.  She also had an extensive owl collection.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Patti Johnson of Lawton, IA; Bill Mathers and his wife, Linda of Correctionville, IA; Jackie Vehe of Gretna, IA; and Mick Mathers and his wife, Diana of Nixa, MO; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice White of Kingsley, IA; and sisters-in-law, Marge Laddusaw, Janice Pfaffle and Norma (Neal) Pinkerton, all of Kingsley.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bobby on May 29, 2013.
