Janice “Jan” Walker
Janice “Jan” Juluanna Walker, 83, of Ankeny, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Mill Pond.
Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). An outdoor funeral service followed the visitation at 4:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Jan was born March 31, 1937, in Kingsley, Iowa. She graduated from Kingsley, Iowa in 1955 and then went on to beauty school. She then owned her own beauty shop called Jan’s Klip and Kurl for approximately five years.
Jan was married to Ron Walker on August 31, 1957 and they lived in Moville, Iowa until moving to Ankeny in 1969. Jan worked as a light duty janitor at Ankeny High School for over 25 years before retiring in 2002.
Jan loved sports of all kinds and loved watching her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and nieces and nephews play. Everyone knew NOT to call her during a game — any game! She loved college football and especially the Iowa State Cyclones. The Chicago Cubs were her baseball passion, and the Chicago Bears were her favorite NFL team.
In her younger years, Jan was an avid bowler for over 20 years. She loved gardening and canning. She enjoyed scouting garage sales, collecting Beanie Babies and trading cards with her grandkids when they were younger. She also crocheted and after retirement she began quilting. She had quilted well over 100 quilts in the last 20 years.
Jan was known for baking pies. She had the best rhubarb pie or apple, peach, cherry or chocolate. Her pie crust was the best! She was happiest spending time with her family and friends. She loved watching all their sports and other activities.
She is survived by her children, Debra (Joel) Twardokus of Horicon, WI; Darcy (Tim) Fitzgerald of Chariton, IA; and Rusty Walker of Ankeny, IA; her daughter-in-law, Teri Walker of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren Paul (Sarah) Dory, Julie (Greg) Chipp, Justin (Amber) Fitzgerald, Erin (Pete) Burmeister, Jennifer (Justin) Pfeifer, Desiray (Kyle Maas) Walker, Rachel Walker, and Randi Twardokus; great-grandchildren Delaney Dory, Dawson Dory, Brady Chipp, Derek Chipp, Garrett Chipp, Addilynn Chipp, Makenza Walker, Raylin Walker, Jaxton Walker, Alana Walker, Makenna Burmeister, Reagan Burmeister, Ellie Burmeister, Kaden Fitzgerald, and Reese Fitzgerald; sisters Pat (Duane) Junck and Shryl Alberti; her brother, Russell (Muriel) Walker; and many nieces & nephews, great-nieces and nephews including special bond great-nephews Jason (Tiffany) Loutsch and Justin (Katy) Loutsch and their children, Julianah Loutsch, Milan Loutsch, Kallie Loutsch, and Jack Loutsch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Walker; her son, Randy “Walk” Walker; her parents, Julius and Myrtle Kasner; her brothers, Clarence “Bud” Kasner, Gilbert “Tuff” Kasner, Donn Kasner, and Butch Kasner; and her sisters, Stella Loutsch and Lola Knosp.
