Cushing City Hall – 200 Main St.

The regular meeting of the Cushing City Council was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Mayor Don Joy Jr.

Council members present: Alex Rabbass, Jerry Wittrock, Shawn Joy, and Mary Tyler, Jesse VanHouten

Also present: Gary Merkel, Corey and Tish Evans

Motion by Rabbass, seconded by Tyler to approve consent agenda which includes:
1) Meeting agenda
2) April 6, 2021 Minutes
3) Financial Statement & Budget Report
4) Claims as Presented
5) Building Permits
Motion passed 5/0.

Sheriff’s Report: Report stated that Cushing had 4 calls last month.

Library Report: Report given.

Clerk Report: Report given.

City Maintenance: Council discussed clean up at ball field, and properties around town.

E911/Landfill Board: Merkel gave a report on last meeting. There wasn’t a quorum, so no decisions were made.

Old 20 CDC: No report given.

Committee & Appointments — Motion made by Wittrock to approve Reports as given. Seconded by Joy. Motion carried 5/0.

Old Business
• Nuisance Properties. Council discussed some of the issues. Clerk confirmed letters were sent to the properties specified by council. Council directed clerk to send letters to more residents, and to find out process to red tag a property. Council would also have clerk send letters to residents with dogs that are running around town without leashes.

General Business
• Public Hearing. Motion made by Tyler to set June 1st as the date for a public hearing for budget amendment #1. Seconded by VanHouten. Motion carried 5/0.
• Street Signs/Banners. Tyler presented the need to replace the street signs around town. Council asked the clerk to get quotes for signs and banners for main street.

Resolution 2021:12: Motion by Joy to set the public hearing for the budget amendment #1 FY2021, seconded by Rabbass. Motion carried 5/0.


Next regular meeting has been set for Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 6:30 p.m.

With no further business, motion by Wittrock, seconded by VanHouten to adjourn at 7:35 p.m.
