Therefore, let it be RESOLVED: Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School, in response to updated guidance issued May 14th, 2021 from the Iowa Department of Public Health, will cease its existing policy requiring masks to be worn by all students and staff.
Effective Tuesday, May 18th, Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School’s COVID-19 mitigation strategies will “provide parents and students with the option to make their own decision about mask usage.” Furthermore, per updated public health guidance, MVAO Community School will not require the quarantining of exposed students regardless of mask usage unless a student is COVID-19 positive or COVID-19 symptomatic.
In addition, administration is authorized to use its discretion to maintain other COVID-19 mitigation measures as deemed appropriate to promote and maintain continued safety for all staff and students. Staff and administration also has flexibility to consider, when within reason and where applicable, alternative classroom settings when social distancing is not possible.
Staff and students who wish to continue wearing masks are strongly encouraged to do so and an inclusive and supportive environment on all district property at all times will be an expectation for all students and parents regardless of wearing or not wearing masks. Harassment and bullying over student choices over masks will not be tolerated.
III. Adjourn – President Wimmer adjourned the meeting at 8:20 PM.
