Shirley Brown

Shirley E. Brown, 89, of Kingsley passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Remsen, Iowa.

Services were held 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 at Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley. Burial is at Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday with family present at Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley. Online condolences may be sent to rohdefh.com.

Shirley was born May 27, 1933, at home on the farm northwest of Kingsley, the daughter of Wesley and Lisa (Toothman) Pratt. She graduated from Union School and then attended Bethany-Peniel College in Oklahoma.

Shirley met her future husband, Royce Brown, while he was working as a farm hand for her neighbors. When he returned home after serving the U.S. Army, they were married April 21, 1954, and lived and raised their family, David, Janet and Gary, on the farm Shirley was raised on.

Shirley helped out on the farm, raising chickens and taking care the household and children. She worked for Harrison Green House in Sioux City for two years. She was a member of The Church of Nazarene in Le Mars, Iowa, where she was Sunday School teacher, board member, treasurer, secretary and helped with Bible School for many years.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, David (Nicole) Brown of Arizona and Gary (Krista) Brown of Kingsley; daughter, Janet (Rick) Bauerly of Kingsley; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Royce Brown; grandson, Zachery Brown; brother-in-law Jim and his wife Else Mae Brown; brother-in-law Charles and his wife Delores Brown; and brother-in-law Gale Brown and his two wives, Darlene and Pauline.
